About LACE DOG

Lace development and production for womenswear, since 2003.

We develop and manufacture lace, embroidery and trims for womenswear. A project usually starts with a reference image, a physical swatch or a sketch, and ends with goods that have been inspected before they leave our hands.

More than twenty years in one trade has kept us narrow on purpose: we work in lace and embroidery, and we work with the buyers who use it.

Where we are

Jiaxing, Zhejiang — inside the lace and embroidery belt

Our workshop and our development team are in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, where lace, embroidery and trims have been made for decades.

That position shapes what we are good at: pattern development, embroidery and fringing, sampling, and repeating the same article over several seasons without losing the hand or the width.

Production

Our own workshop, and a supply chain we answer for

We run our own production in Jiaxing, on our own machines and with our own people on the floor. That is where development samples are made and where most of what we ship is produced.

Not every article can be made under our own roof, so some programs are run by long-standing partner mills in the same Jiaxing cluster. What does not change is who answers for the goods: outsourced production passes through exactly the same inspection as our own before it ships, and if something is wrong with an order, the responsibility for it stays with us.

Markets

Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea

Most of what we develop leaves Jiaxing for four markets. Lace is read differently in each of them, so the brief, the sample comments and the packing instructions we work from are always the buyer's own.

Telling us the market and the season in your first message is useful: it is part of what we develop against.

Why we built our own pattern system

A lace pattern being digitised for the archive.

Two decades of development left us with a physical archive of roughly 120,000 patterns — sample cards, draughts and production repeats, mostly on paper.

Finding a match in it meant pulling cards by hand, and a pattern we had already made could be redeveloped because nobody could find it in time. So we digitised the archive and built LaceDog, our own pattern system. Searching now starts from the library instead of from the boxes: we can put a reference against what we already own and work from the closest patterns that exist.

Quality and responsibility

100% of our production is inspected before it ships

Inspection is not a final glance at a closed carton. Goods are checked as they come off the line and again before packing, so a fault is found in Jiaxing rather than in your warehouse.

Inspected before shipment

100% of what we ship is inspected before it leaves us — what we make ourselves and what our partners make for us.

An independent QC team

Our QC team does not report to the production line, it reports on it. Its verdict on a lot is what allows that lot to ship.

Send us the brief you are working from

A reference image, a physical swatch or a sketch is enough to start. Tell us what the lace is for and roughly how much you expect to need, and we will come back with what we can develop from it.
